HOW DO I HAVE THE BEST ZOOM AUDIO QUALITY POSSIBLE FOR MY VIRTUAL EVENT?
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Bad audio quality can ruin a virtual event. No one likes to listen to feedback or an echo while someone speaks and it isn’t very much fun to dance to music that sounds like it is coming out of a speaker phone circa 1999. It is distracting and can make you want to hit the “end meeting” button real quick! That is why it is important to hire a virtual event DJ with experience who can walk you through any technical issues and ensure your Zoom party is the best virtual experience for everyone participating.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING I NEED TO DO WHEN PLANNING MY VIRTUAL EVENT VIA ZOOM?
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Zoom updates its software on a regular basis with important security items as well as updates to features such as sound and audio so it is crucial that you and all participants have the most current version available. Here is how you do that:
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
From the Zoom Desktop Client
- Open Zoom on your desktop.
- Click on your image or icon in the upper right corner. From the menu, click on “Check for Updates”.
- If an update is needed, the version will appear. Click “Update” and follow prompts.
- If you don’t need the update, simply click the “Close” button.

From the Zoom Website
- Go to: https://zoom.us/download
- Click the “Download” button and follow the prompts.

SHOULD I SOUND CHECK BEFORE STARTING MY ZOOM PARTY?
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Always run an audio test before starting a Zoom party! I recommend logging in with all virtual event co-hosts around 15 minutes before the event is scheduled to start to perform audio testing and ensure everything is working properly before admitting participants into the Zoom room.
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
If you cannot hear any audio during the sound check, try the following:
- Make sure your computer speakers are on/not muted. (Look for your computer’s audio controls and turn up the volume.)
- If your speakers appear to be on and the volume is up, but you still cannot hear the audio, check Zoom’s audio settings and select a new speaker. Click the upward arrow to the right of the Mute button at the bottom of the Zoom window. Choose another speaker from the speaker selection list and try the audio test again. If you do not see a speaker listed, this means your computer does not have any speakers connected. You will need to plug in a headset or external speaker.

If participants cannot hear you during the sound check, try the following:
- Make sure you have the right microphone selected (e.g. maybe you are talking into your laptop’s mic, but Zoom is picking up an external mic nearby). To select a different microphone, click the upward arrow to the right of the Mute button at the bottom of the Zoom window. Choose another microphone from the microphone selection list and try the audio test again.
- If you do not see a microphone listed, this means your computer does not have an internal microphone and you do not have another mic plugged in. You will need to plug in an external microphone/headset.

If your audio sounds muffled or distorted try the following:
- Use a different microphone (AirPods, headsets or external USB microphones work great)
- If you do not have another mic, click the upward arrow to the right of the Mute button at the bottom of the Zoom window and choose “Switch to Phone Audio Call” from the drop-down list. Follow the prompts on the next screen to dial in via telephone. Once you’ve completed these steps, you will be able to speak and listen through your phone’s mic and speakers.

CAN I MAKE ADJUSTMENTS ONCE THE ZOOM PARTY IS ROCKING?
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Yes, you can switch your audio source at any time, even while your Zoom party is live so don’t be afraid to make adjustments as needed.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD CONSIDER BEFORE THROWING MY VIRTUAL EVENT?
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The last (and possibly most important) thing you’ll need to keep in mind when planning your Zoom party is that Zoom is relying on your internet connection to transmit audio so you want to be sure you have the strongest internet connection available to you. A poor internet connection will make for a poor experience so you want to be sure you are doing everything possible to ensure the internet connection for your virtual event is the best it can possibly be. Here are some tips for getting a better internet connection:
- Try moving closer to your wireless router (for example, if you are downstairs and the router is upstairs, move upstairs into the same room as the router)
- Try plugging your Ethernet cable directly into your computer (rather than into the wireless router)
